Job Title: Graduate Assistant in Software DevelopmentReports to: Head of Department / Lead Lecturers • Department: Department of Information Communication Technology (ICT) • Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Role Purpose Statement
This role exists to amplify teaching quality, fuel research momentum, and streamline department operations by embedding a recent graduate directly into the academic team. You will translate real-world software practices into dynamic classroom experiences, accelerate research outcomes, and deliver responsive student and administrative support that advances KCA University’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Co-create tutorials, labs, and coursework materials with lecturers to energize Software Development instruction. Facilitate discussion groups, practical sessions, and review clinics that drive student mastery. Support grading and feedback workflows for assignments, tests, and exams under supervision. Coach and mentor students through academic challenges and career pathways. Conduct literature reviews, collect and analyze data, and contribute to research deliverables and grant proposals. Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation that showcase research impact. Maintain accurate student records and ensure clean data entry and compliance. Coordinate seminars, workshops, guest lectures, and department events that build community. Deliver responsive student services and connect learners to campus support resources. Supervise undergraduate interns and guide their project execution. Attend departmental meetings and contribute actionable insights. Tackle ad hoc priorities that advance teaching, research, and operations.

Coordinate cross-functional tasks and remove blockers to keep projects moving.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Software Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited university. Strong academic record (Second-Class Upper Division or higher; First Class an advantage). Currently enrolled in a Master’s Degree program. Demonstrated interest in research, teaching, or consultancy. Commitment to ethical practice and continuous improvement.
